References

A reference image gives a generation something to build from — a look to match, a subject to keep consistent, or elements to combine. You add references in the composer, where you create images and video. The same picker shows up wherever you generate.

This page covers how to add and manage references. For the generation itself, see Creating images and Editing images.

In the composer, find the dashed Add reference button below the prompt. Click it to open the picker. When you’re generating video, the same button reads Add first frame — the picture you choose becomes the opening frame.

Any references you’ve added show as small thumbnails above the button. Each thumbnail has an X to remove it. A count next to the strip shows how many you’ve added against the limit, and Clear drops them all at once.

How many references you can add depends on the model and the task. The picker enforces the limit and tells you when you’ve hit it.

The picker has three tabs down the left side. Each pulls from a different place.

TabWhat it shows
HistoryYour most recent results — the fastest way to feed a past generation back in
GalleryEvery image your team has generated, with Load more to page through the full set
UploadsFiles you’ve uploaded yourself

Click any thumbnail to add it. A checkmark marks the ones you’ve selected. Click a selected thumbnail again to remove it. When a task allows several references, keep clicking to add more — the picker stays open so you can build up a set, then click Done to close it. The footer shows your running count against the limit.

Both the Uploads and History tabs include an upload tile at the top of the grid. Click Upload to pick a file from your device, or drag an image straight into the picker and drop it. Use PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF, up to 10 MB. The image attaches as a reference right away and is saved to your uploads for next time.

The search box at the top right of the picker searches the tab you’re on. On History or Gallery it searches across your generations; on Uploads it searches your uploaded files by name. The search follows you when you switch tabs, so the same words search the newly active source. Clear the box to drop back to browsing.

References used to have their own page. They now live in the Library alongside the rest of your assets — uploads, generations, and brand files in one place. The old reference link sends you to the Library, so existing bookmarks keep working. To find a past upload or organize your files, go to the Library; to put one to work, open the picker in the composer and pick it from Uploads.
